点评:Given our choice of DC area venues for classical music, we’ve always preferred the Strathmore over the Kennedy’s Center. The Strathmore is beautiful; it’s got perfect sightlines from every seat; the prices are reasonable; the food and drink is reasonably priced; the parking is free, convenient, and just a covered 1-block walk from the hall. By contrast, while the venues in the Kennedy Center are beautiful inside, the building from outside just looks like the box that the Watergate came in; the cafeteria is noisy and dirty, with criminally high prices [last time we made the mistake of eating there, two salads and a glass of wine each came to over $50(!)]; parking is outrageously expensive too, and the traffic around concert time is heavy.
In spite of all this, the Strathmore has often been just half to 3/4-full, while the Kennedy Center has often been full. But tonight, the Strathmore had a totally full house. The couple sitting next to us had never been there before; they had fled the Kennedy because of Trump’s hostile takeover. And judging from the full house, about half the people in the audience were likewise asylum seekers. They all had stars in their eyes at how wonderful the place is. Now that our little secret is out, the Strathmore is gonna be full all the time, and the Kennedy Center will become a ghost town.
