点评:When we found out our new nextdoor neighbor owned a fossil quarry, we were so excited! We love geology and ancient stuff so decided to take our two grandchildren, 14 & 11 on an adventure to Fossil Lake Safari. We also learned that Kemmerer, Wyoming, besides being the location of the dig, is also the home of the very first JCPenney store! Who knew? And as our grandkids' last names were Penney, it was a given that we would visit both places.
The dig is amazing! Matt, the owner, was surprised but pleased to see us there and guided us through the dig area where we were given a lesson on how to use the tools to find a variety of marine life from eons in the past. A true treasure hunt! We all found great specimens of fish fossils to impress the folks at home. Everything you dig, you get to keep, unless you find something totally outrageous like a TRex or something.
And yes, we did get to the adorable original JCPenney store and the home he lived in.
