原铁道模型博物馆的点评
点评：The Hara Model Railway Museum is a model railway museum in Yokohama. The museum houses the extensive collection of model trains built and amassed by the Japanese model railway enthusiast Nobutaro Hara, covers an area of approximately 1,700 m², with the display area covering an area of approximately 1,200 m². It can be reached from JR Yokohama station by a 15 mins walk (through an elaborate maze of crowds and shops) or by a 1-stop MRT ride using the Minatomirai line.
Approximately 1,000 items from Hara's private collection of more than 6,000 model railway items are on a rotating display. The collection also includes the original models of Thomas the Tank Engine and several of the other characters from the production of Thomas & Friends prior to 2009 when the show was switched to CGI animation.
For entrance tickets purchase there are 2 choices: 1. getting it from the Family Mart at the ground floor (museum is located on the 2nd floor), 2. Getting it from the ticket vending machine in front of the museum entrance. We used the 2nd option (we did not know that there was a vending machine) which was a breeze as a there is an English option.
There 3-4 sections in the museum (train models on display, history of the museum, the diorama and a miniature Yokohama diorama). We where in a awe of the collection and the trains (i used to play these with HO Gauge), so i was instantly transported back to my childhood. They provided benches, so you just can sit there and look at the trains passing by. My wife, who is not a train enthousiast, even mentioned that there is something soothing of looking at the diorama, see and hear the train passes in front of you.
The only disappointment we had was that the Thomas collection was not on display as they were in Kyoto for the Thomas exhibition in the Kyoto Railway Museum.
