Conch Bhavan, ISKCON- The Best Place to Stay in Mayapur By Far

点评：I wanted to see the change in Mayapur since I last visited it almost a quarter of centuary ago. Thanks to inputs and logistics help from a dear Mataji friend in Mayapur, I booked the Conch Guest House. This guest house is the premium one among the various types of accommodations offered by ISKCON in their campus. I could only get it for 5 days but it was exactly the time required to explore and immerse ourselves. We wanted to avoid the madness on Gaura Purnima, the peak of ISKCON calendar. Conch Bhawan is the perfect combination of Sattvic and comfort. From size of rooms good for a larger group too, quality of furniture and furnishings, good hygine, great WiFi, it was in the goldilocks zone. The value of this was made even clearer when we had to move to a pricey, slickly advertised, new-age guest house outside ISKCON, which turned out to be a horror. Compared to the professional touch of Conch Bhawan the next place was horrible. No wonder it does not have a listing on Trip Advisor and instead is promoted by dubious, selective reviews not reflecting the reality.
Coming back to Conch Bhawan, It has elevators which is valuable for those challenged physically. and the most remarkable feature is space and attention to comfort and functionality. It has a dressing table, writing table, bedside tables, all with electric connections. Sofas, table and chairs were perfect for prolonged use with comfort. Clean beds and covers, towels and a spacious bath with a large geyser, each and everything was perfect for a long stay and meet people you could invite.
All the ISKCON monuments are in eyeshot and in walking distance. Being right next to the main temple you could walk barefoot for any Puja starting from early morning Magala Aarati. This is valuable given that there are no reliable facilities to stow footwear and mobiles before entering the temple. From TOVP to Pushpa Samadhi, The Kitchen and Govinda's restaurant, you could walk to these at appropriate times. This ability to participate in different activities at different times is the most important value that Conch Bhawan offers. The staff is also nice and responsive.
The downside of all these is that the place is in high demand and is extremely difficult to book so you must travel in advance and book the moment the time window opens.
Unlike other hotels and guest house which have doubtful quality and wait for "season" to have all services working and have untrained staff, not available always, Conch Bhawan is practically booked the whole year round and has full-time staff. It's location inside the ISKCON premises is especially valuable given the bad quality of infrastructure like roads and local conveyance on-demand in Mayapur.
This should give you enough information to make your decision when planning your Mayapur trip.
