点评:We visited the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum in Phnom Penh as a family with teenagers. This museum is a powerful and emotional experience that provides crucial insight into Cambodia’s tragic history under the Khmer Rouge regime.
Set in a former school turned into the infamous S-21 prison, the site has been preserved to reflect the grim reality of what happened there. Original cells remain, and the museum presents a mix of photos, artifacts, and real human remains—including skulls and bones—that make the history deeply tangible.
Because of the graphic nature of the exhibits, I would not recommend this for young children or anyone sensitive to such content. Teens, however, can benefit from the historical context and emotional depth, provided they are prepared for what they will see.
English audio guides are available, though we opted for a knowledgeable English-speaking guide, which added personal depth to the visit. A special part of the experience was the presence of two S-21 survivors at the site, offering their memoirs and personal stories—an incredibly moving opportunity.
The museum is well-organized and respectfully presented. Plan to spend 1 to 2 hours, depending on how much you want to take in. It’s a must-visit for anyone seeking to understand Cambodia’s past and the resilience of its people.
