点评:We were in Paihia as part of our month-long trip around New Zealand - a one-off "trip of a lifetime". Wishing to pay due respect to Maori heritage and history, a "must see" for us was the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, for which we put put aside most of a day. But on arrival we were astounded to discover that the entrance fee for "Adult Internationals" was NZ$70 per person - a huge entrance fee and, even worse, twice the cost that native New Zealanders would pay... To our mind, this is unacceptable two-tier (and even racist) pricing, and we were simply not prepared to pay it. Our trip includes pre-booked Maori experiences and trips to Maori museums, so it was not worth paying for those items again as part of the entrance fee to the Treaty Grounds.
Everywhere we've been so far in NZ, people have been extremely friendly and welcoming, but this exploitative pricing does not become the country or the region. What a shame! We would love to have supported the preservation of Maori heritage and culture, but with a limited budget for our NZ tour, we could simply not justify such a significant outlay.
