Ony a fraction is viewable, but it's a great fraction.
State Museum of Art named after I.V. Savitsky的点评
点评:Does it make sense to go all the way to Nukus for the Savitsky Museum?
The exhibit was top quality, of magnificent stuff and beautifully curated by a team from Italy, restored by French experts, all done in cooperation with Uzbekistan. There was an amazing breadth to what was on display, from Socialist Realism to Futurism, from artists representing all of Russia. Women were very well represented. The mixing of Russian and Central Asian influences is beautifully represented.
But at least when I was there, of three large buildings, only a fraction was accessible. The exhibit was about 150 paintings mixed with textiles, about five rooms. Only a fragment of the collection, but likely the best. Going through it twice took me an hour.
It was work to get to Nukus (a 2 hour flight from Tashkent) and driving to Khiva is 3-4 hours, but you can combine that with looking at fortresses, or use Nukus as a jumping-off point to reach Moynaq and the Aral Sea. It's a wonderful small exhibition. You're going to have to decide if you're enough of an art lover to make the trek.
