点评:Museo Pumapungo is not to be missed if you want to understand the indigenous cultures and the history of Ecuador. Sadly, part of the museum was closed during our visit but what was there was rich with history, artifacts, displays and recreations of early traditional living quarters. Touring just part of the inside of the museum too a couple of hours and required lots of photographs just to remember what we saw. Going outside to tour the ruins is another eye widening experience as you grasp the technical precision with which the indigenous cultures constructed above-ground and underground (inside hills) structures. A vast circular garden has specific points that line up with prominences on the hillsides that when viewing in alignment take your eye to specific stars and/or constellations. These ruins represent a "kingdom" and the surrounding town. To do it justice, you really need about 4 hours. Oh yes, the icing on the cake is the Amazon Parrots that live in a clump of trees ... they make it known that you're not welcome under those trees despite the path that must be followed. They hand from the walls and perch in the trees providing a cacophony that will move you along quickly.
