点评:We visited today and booked a cave tour. Great value for money as your ticket is an annual pass.
Our cave tour guide was Simon who was very entertaining. Funny, knowledgeable and took his time even though we were in a large group.
My son is Autistic and suffers from anxiety, so after previous meltdowns in caves, we let Simon know beforehand and he was great at reassuring him and making time to chat to him to ease his worries. It definitely helped and we made it through the whole cave tour.
It took about 2 hours from start to finish and wouldn't be suitable for those with mobility difficulties and under 5s due to the small tunnels and uneven ground.
We were provided with good quality hard hats and torches.
The site itself is beautiful and well kept, and there is a clear focus on naturalisation and promoting bio diversity. Dogs are allowed in the grounds but MUST be kept on a lead due to the wildlife.
Some lovely walks and the walks are free ie no entry fee, although parking is pay and display (free for blue badge).
The museum (small entrance fee if not doing a cave tour, otherwise it's included) is interesting but only takes 20ish mins.
It was very busy today, probably due to the glorious sunshine, but as a result, the car park was full as was the small bicycle rack. I'm unsure if there is overflow parking.
The downside for us was the cafe. Very small and clearly struggled with the volume of customers. Food options were limited (paninis, crisps, scones and sausage rolls) and we felt slightly expensive for what they were. You are able to take your own and eat in the outdoor picnic areas so we'll do that next time. There did seem to be some sort of refreshment trailer however it was shut.
There are ice creams available to buy and although no water refill stations, the cafe obliged happily.
We hope to visit later in the year to see the other caves once the bats have woken up for the summer!
