点评：We were booked on the first Golden Arrow dining experience of the year this Saturday (1st March 2025), just gone.
What an incredible and delightful day!
The railway and its staff are so authentic of back in the day and impeccably turned out. The trains and carriages are spotless. The attention to detail is breathtaking. The stations offer a chance to glimpse back to the good old days of steam. The gift shop was lovely too, providing an array of railway paraphernalia and memorabilia.
We were met, greeted and checked in by Peter, a charming gentlemen and lovely host.
Once on board we immensely enjoyed the ambience, character and atmosphere of dining in a traditional carriage. Again the authenticity was magnificent. The steam engine (no. 65) was on good ‘puffing’ form and put in a faultless run up the gradient towards Horsted Keynes and beyond to Kingscote.
The dinner and service was first class. We very much enjoyed the crab bisque (soup), pork and guinea fowl for mains and red berry Charlotte for dessert.
Sadly due to a broken down train ahead of us on the line we weren’t able to fulfill our journey to East Grinstead but we were very generously compensated by the railway with everyone’s drinks bill on board being waived. A very nice gesture indeed.
We would love to return and do it all again!
