Bluebell Railway Class 73 locomotive footplate experience

点评：I visited the Bluebell Railway on Friday 28th February for a footplate experience on the Class 73 electro-diesel locomotive no E6040.
On arrival at Horsted Keynes, I was offered a free drink and was introduced to the instructors for the course. The locomotives controls were explained and I took the second mans seat as another person was driving uphill to Kingscote. The locomotive was hauling a brake van.
On arrival at Kingscote, the locomotive ran around the brake van, everybody moved to the other cab and I took the drivers seat for the downhill run back to Horsted Keynes. This experience shows that it is very to exceed speed limits even with engine idling, ie not under power and I have to admit that I did creep over the speed limits briefly.
On arrival back at Horsted Keynes participants were presented with a certificate and a mug depicting the locomotive.
A very enjoyable experience which I would like to do again. Highly recommended.
