维尔纽斯老城的点评
点评：We first visited Vilnius in a Baltics trip in 2004. To escape the crowds and heat of southern Europe, we returned for 5 days in 2023, after 2 days in Klaipeda and 4 great days in lovely Nida on the Curonian Spit. We enjoyed Vilnius so much that we stayed again for 7 days in 2024, and we will stay for 9 days in 2025. I am sure you will ask, ‘which are no 1 and 2?’ No 1 for us is Sevilla. No 2 is Adelaide, Australia.
What then is so special about Vilnius and its old town? The Eyewitness Guide explains is character very well in the following. “Whether viewed from one of the hills that overlook the Old Town or from one of the many pavement cafés with tall spires rising all around them, Vilnius is unmistakably a city of great beauty. The Old Town, on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1994, blends Gothic and Neo-Classical styles with a breathtaking late flourish f Baroque. Vilnius is in itself an architectural monument.” Although its Old Town is one of the largest in Europe, Vilnius is a surprisingly compact city that can easily be explored on foot”. It is a great city to walk around in, with the lovely riverside and gardens being a great contrast to the countless churches and large and small squares. Traffic is not really much of an issue either when walking round the Old Town.
