Post-Helene, the beautiful nature center is back!

点评：We attended the post hurricane Helene reopening today during members' week, and reopening to the public is scheduled for March 17, 2025. The nature center (zoo) has been closed since the hurricane last fall because the adjacent river washed out the access bridge, but I am happy to report that the nature center itself did not appear to sustain any irreparable damage and, most importantly, the center reported that no animals were harmed and all were attended to within a day after the storm.
What we saw during our visit today is that damage to the nature center and animal habitats has been mostly repaired, almost all exhibits were open, and the previous plans to renovate and expand the center are back underway. And so, just as before the hurricane, the nature center is a beautiful place to spend a morning or afternoon, or even just an hour, with many animal exhibits, hands-on activities for children, and easy access and walking paths throughout. If you go, please check the nature center's website for driving instructions since it is necessary to detour around the side in order to gain access since the bridge that goes directly to the main entrance is still out, and likely to be so for a long time.
Please note that even though this may sound like a bit of an advertisement for the nature center, I have no affiliation with the nature center other than being someone who really enjoys going there, and the review is only to say that the nature center is back online and, once again, a very nice place to visit.
