点评:Hi, just returned from a 2 week trip of Zanzibar nd thought I'd write a quick review and hopefully give a few tips for those thinking of visiting Zanzibar.
Taxis are plentiful and the prices are all very similar from one driver to the next but you can negotiate a little with them i.e Stone Town to Nungwi is $50 but I got it for $40. You can book your taxi via WhatsApp weeks before you leave and it's a good idea to keep the same driver as they will do you good rates if you use them for your day trips and moving around the island. I used a guy called Eddy who was reliable and friendly (+255 716228827)
Firstly, I hd a great time whilst in Zanzibar and I stayed in three different areas, Makanduchi and Kizmikazi in the south and Nungwi in the North. The South of the Island is very different to the North in that it is a lot quieter with a lot less tourism, so if you looking for real R&R I would recommend the south, the beaches are clean, there are generally only a few guys on the beach selling things (Hawkers I call them) and they are generally relaxed, smily, respect your space and a No, thank you is enough of them to leave you alone.
There is very little to do in Makanduchi except chill out, get a tan, sit by the pool, walk on the beach have a drink at the hotel bar etc, there are very few hotels or restaurants and the restaurants there are are based in the hotels, iso bring and few books and relax
Kizimikazi is on the other side of the island, and is a beautiful beach with mesmerising sunsets, a great little fishing village and a bit more in the way of hotels, resorts and restaurants, obviously more tourists means. few more seller on the beat who are mainly young Masai men, but again they are smily, friendly, a little bit more persistent but non threatening.
Nungwi is your main tourism place and is a lot more built up, with hundreds of options for where to stay, restaurants and bars on the Bech and a little further inland off the beach. The beaches are still clean, the sunsets are still amazing Burt there a lot of Hawkers selling T-shirts, bracelets, carved ornaments and well basically everything in between. I don't normally buy anything from beach guys, however this time I bought a few trinkets for my family, don't get me wrong I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it I'm just not a great shopper.Again they re friendly, smily, they aren't threatening but they are a lot more persistent and will walk with you down the beach talking to you about Zanzibar and Nungwi but really they are just hoping to make a sale. I did enjoy the restaurants and bar scene here though as more places means more competition ewhich means the quality was better.
Resorts and rooms are not cheap in Zanzibar and I thought they were overpriced compatred to other beach holidays I've been to like Thailand and Goa etc, the rooms were always clean and well maintained but for anything half decent it was circa £80 - £120 per night for B&B and a lot more for all inclusive! Some of the high end resorts owned by the Big corporate hotel companies in Nungwi are as much as £250 Per person per night for B&B and in my opinion are just not worth it. A GnT will set you back $8, A burger $10-12 and a good meal with drinks around $35-65, which is the same as European prices.
Hiring a moped or car is easy and practically every hotel and resort can arrange for you, I hired a moped and $20 a day is about average, the hotel will also help you arrange your Tanzania Licence which was about $15 I think and is just a piece of paper with your other licence detail on and some details from your passport and feels like it's just another little tourist Tax from the government!
Call the Cops!!!
The cops in Zanzibar are crooked and are a pain in the A**E, they stand on the side of the road every few miles pulling people over for nothing including tourists, taxi drivers anyone on or in vehicle. The hotel manager told me to always carry with licences on me and told me to carry some small notes to give to them like 2000 or 3000 Tanzania Shilling (which is bout £1.00), however the first time they pulled me over I hadn't had chance to change any money and it cost me 20,000 Tanzania shilling which is about £7.00, it isn't a lot of money but when you know they are just pocketing it , it is bloody annoying! They also seem to be a lot more pushy if you show you are nervous or unsure when they pull you over. Buy the second and third they pulled me over I was a lot more versed, shows them my confidence by saying JAMBO (hello) firmly, handing them my licence and not taking any of their rubbish. They will even try and tell you that you didn't indicate but they are just trying it on. The hotel manager told me they are just after money for their lunch but if they take 3000 of everyone they pull then they are on to a good little scam!
In short, have your wits about you, Zanzibar is a very poor country and you can see this everywhere when you leave the resort but in general it is very safe, I didn't see or hear of any crime while I was there and in general the people are friendly.
One last thing the UK.Gov website sys Zanzibar is high risk for Malaria, I bought Malaria tablets, tons of mosquito repellent, bits cream etc and I only got bitten three times in the whole time I was there. I normally get bitten to death everywhere I go on holiday. I stopped taking the malaria tablets after a few days and bthety were a waste of Money (£50).
