点评:I attended Peters informative, interesting & relaxed tour of Balmoral Cemetery today. Having lived near -and driven past- the cemetery for well over half a century, I’m ashamed to say I hadn’t even registered it was there 😱
Because it’s Saint Patrick’s day tomorrow, the tour focused on the cemetery’s links to the south of Ireland, but as well as regular family burials, there seemed to be plenty of links to “the great and the good” families of Belfast.
If I remember correctly, the cemetery has Protestant, Catholic & Jewish families buried here.
The cemetery isn’t open to the public because quite a number of the headstones are unstable.
The terrain is very uneven so tours probably wouldn’t be suitable for anyone with mobility issues.
There is no parking available in the immediate area, although because it was a Saturday I was able to park a few streets away. The Balmoral train station is just across the road and I’m sure there are local buses with stops nearby.
I hadn’t booked online, I just paid at the gate.
Peter has a lovely unassuming manner and a great sense of humour ( he said he recognised my “spaceman” coat … how very rude 😂)
All in all, if you get the chance to go on this tour, I’d recommend it.
