Very disappointing

点评：The site is VERY interesting if only because of its location up on a mountain. However, our visit was overall disappointing. The site is not only disorganised but there is obviously lack of investment in order to optimise the experience for visitors.
The worst part was that the famous mosaic, which was the main reason for our visit, was not there to see. We were told that it's only exhibited between certain times in the year. I specifically checked the website to plan our visit but there was no information to that effect and I assumed that everything would be open as normal. Imagine climbing a kilometre in the heat to reach the palace, only to find out that the main attraction is not there to see. It would seem that there is lack of organisation or respect for visitors. It's also incredible that the mosaic is not exhibited throughout the year. The member of staff that was there said that was in order to protect it from the weather conditions. I will add some photos from a Roman site in the UK to this review, so that they can see how this problem has been dealt with and the mosaics are exhibited throughout the year, in spite of much rainier and colder weather. Where there is the will there is the way.
Sadly, this was not the only problem here. The site is a really steep climb through the mountain without a single warning sign as to this situation. No benches along the way for visitors to rest. The palace is in a beautiful location but mostly consists of modern reconstructions. You don't see anything original and there is only one sign about one of the rooms. Even the sanctuary of Heracles, the legendary founder of the royal house of Macedonia, was not signposted.
We left feeling disappointed, if not offended, at the lack of appreciation of the Greek Ministry of Culture for Macedonian history and its people.
