点评:Trails were a bit confusing using the park map. Familiarize yourself some with the map and use the trail markers. Well marked! Some aren’t on the map.
Site was not great. Loop C 15. Most sites had a parking pad and required that you walk down from the camper to the picnic table and fire ring…across roots and large rocks…major trip hazard in the dark if you forgot the flashlight at either end. Also the parking pad for the rv had a pretty dangerous drop off. Watch your step day and night!
Bathrooms and showers, I’ve seen better and I’ve seen worse at state parks. Looks to have been updated early 90s maybe. Seemed fairly clean though.
Also (back to the site) most sites appeared to be on the larger side and not too close together, but no vegetation or bushes between. No privacy at all where I was. The folks on either side of me were friends so they a few times just walked through my site to go back and forth. Annoying.
Howell was interesting. Awesome to see a big water wheel at work. And easy to add the village into any hike or walk. Be prepared though. Everything is downhill of the campground. Can be a pretty rocky climb back up at the end of the day when you’re a bit tired.
Not on the map that I had, but don’t miss the “old Tulip Poplar”. He has his own short spur trail on the east side of the park ( trail system east of hopewell)
Around the raccoon and Bethesda trail if I remember correctly. Largest tree in the place. Sign says approximately 195 years old, 17 feet around! And he still had a big leafy canopy blowing in the breeze! Really nice!
Anyway, enjoy
