I was diving with my 10-year old children and we arranged an upgrade to the open water course. The communication went smoothly with the team - mostly about paying the deposit.
And then it started. We got a young instructor, obviously not having experience with children and definitely not having the patience. They didn’t have a German speaking instructor and asked me to translate so the communication and bounding with the kids was mildly to say non existent. The attitude of the instructor from the very start was: they are not going to make it. Not even noticing that one of the girls was actually advanced and diving few months before with no problems. For her all kids are the same. She didn’t teach them REALLY anything. The equipment on Koh phi phi for children is non existent as well - from the kids they expect only the payment from parents which they happily excepted and left only disappointment.
Koh phi phi (I mean the whole island) turned to a “get as quick and as much money as you can, you never see them again anyway”, exploiting both tourists and locals. The diving sites were loaded with people underwater, making moving and visibility and the whole thing just … not what one would expect from a site as Koh Phi Phi.
We had one instructor for the kids and me, (I was paying for the fun dives so I can help with the kids „course“). I was diving for myself, not having the opportunity unfortunately at least to take one of the children with me to teach her at least something. So instead the instructor was dragging the kids like sacks through the sea - the package delivered, money kept - no course, no hay nada.
I was trying to explain her how we all feel and how to make at least something of the whole thing but the „big instructor“ didn’t allow us/me to say anything.
Impersonal, nervous, impolite, children unfriendly. Never again
