点评:We just returned from our stay at Shamwari and were impressed as always. We had family members visiting who had never been on safari so we opted for Shamwari over the other private game reserves near Port Elizabeth because of the size of the reserve and the luxurious accommodation. We stayed for two nights and went on three of the four game drives offered during that length of stay. The following is our collective impressions:
The Reserve and Game Drives. The property is huge and they are still expanding. Our game ranger is named Mino and we specifically asked for him. His level of expertise, professionalism , and warm personality is what makes the Shamwari experience exceptional. He was able to track all of the Big 5 for us to see. Every drive with Mino was different, educational, entertaining, and exciting. You cannot ask for a better ranger. We also visited The Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre located on the reserve that has an incredible vulture conservation/relocation section and many other animals receiving care.
Accommodation: We stayed at Long Lee Manor House on the second floor which is comprised of two suites. The suites are elegantly appointed and comfortable with views of a huge watering hole that attracts zebras, warthogs, springbok, elephants, and other animals. You can even float in the infinity pool and watch the animals drink 150 meters away. The food is excellent and the menus vary daily with vegetarian options offered at every meal. Breakfast, lunch, high tea, and dinner were included in our package along with most beer, wine , and liquor except for ultra-premium brands which carry a surcharge. The South African wines, beers , and liquor offered with the meal package are higher quality and would be considered top shelf at most establishments. The vegetables served come from the Long Lee Manor gardens located near the lodge.
The Spa: We visited the spa one afternoon and had one of the 90 minute treatments offered. Vula was my technician and gave me a thorough and strong massage, wrap and scrub which left me relaxed , cleansed and ready to ingest more food and wine.
Shamwari is our favorite Private Game reserve in the Eastern Cape and we will be returning later this year for a longer stay.
