Located at 1650 North Halsted in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood, a few steps north of North Avenue, the ensemble has grown to over 50 members who are among the top actors, directors and playwrights in the field. It is the nation's premier ensemble theater that redefines the landscape of acting and performance. Founded in 1976 by Terry Kinney, Jeff Perry and Gary Sinise in Immaculate Conception grade school, the Steppenwolf Theatre Company has built a magnificent home on Halsted Street that includes the 500-seat Downstairs Theater, the 400-seat Ensemble Theater and the 80-seat 1700 Theater. Noted alumni include Gary Sinise, John Malkovich, Joan Allen, Laurie Metcalf, John Mahoney, Amy Morton and Tracy Letts. The current play, which closes on March 23, is "Fool for Love" with Cliff Chamberlain, Tim Hopper and Caroline Neff. It is touted as "perhaps the sexiest, most haunting play of the 20th century." From March 27 to May 18, Steppenwolf will host "The Book of Grace" with Namir Smallwood. It is the Chicago premiere of Pulitzer Prize winning writer Susan-Lori Parks' book of the same name. Steppenwolf's season finale will be "You Will Get Sick," with Cliff Chamberlain, Amy Morton and Namir Smallwood, from June 5 to July 13. It will mark two-time Tony nominee Amy Morton's return to the Steppenwolf stage for the first time in over a decade.
