点评:This was our third visit to Ascott House and the house and gardens were as we remembered, an absolute delight. However, the day was spoiled by our lunchtime visit to the café.
It appeared that the staff were completely overwhelmed by the number of customers - not surprisingly, since there were only two girls serving and, judging by the very long wait for our order to appear, not many people working @in the kitchen, either.
The extensive menu was far too long for the staff to manage, and many choices were unavailable after the first group of customers had been served.
Our order included toasted sandwiches and leek and potato soup, but the soup was of the consistency of wallpaper paste and was stone cold - completely inedible.
We left feeling very disappointed and, as this was our friend’s first visit to Ascott House, very embarrassed that we had taken her there as a “treat”.
I am writing this so that others may be warned about the catering arrangements at Ascott. My advice to future visitors is: TAKE A PICNIC!
