点评:This is my favorite place. Seriously favorite place. Like a shrine for me. Kind of an unusual OCD relaxing mediation spot. My Palm Springs friends know ai need to go there every time I visit them. I live in New England. I pretty much come up with my own ideas for everything I do. But two landscaping exceptions: i did my best to replicate Sunnylands with boxwood and lavender, since cacti and other succulents wouldn’t make it here. (The other steal is the grass steps at Edith Wharton’s home, The Mount, in the Berkshires)
This time, when I arrived at Sunnylands, i was alarmed-damn, i’ve told too many people about it. The parking lot was filled to capacity. But, it was a Saturday morning. Turns out there was a huge group of folks doing TaiChi. It took me a minute to adjust, since even when there are people wandering around the gardens, they are quiet and basically invisible to me. I decided, to do my typical always different wandering, recording the soothing sound of the leader’s voice, since I’d never had a Sunnyland sound to bring home.
It’s really close to the airport and one of these days I’m going to remember to care about getting a window seat to see whether I can look down on it. Wandering is free. The garden is part of the Annenberg Estate, a beautiful mansion, with lots of interesting history. Some small free for the house tour.
