Incredible Dale Chihuly Exhibition

点评：The current Dale Chihuly exhibition at the Botanic Gardens was a real highlight of our trip to Adelaide. It is simply wonderful and not to be missed.
Sixteen of his large-scale glass works are spread throughout the gardens. Each is beautiful but some just stopped us in our tracks. I had several ‘wow’ moments as I came across another stunning piece.
You can easily spend a couple of hours here. The glass sculptures are spread out along a trail so you cover a lot of area.
Make sure to pick up a free Chihuly trail map as you walk in the main entrance. During the evening the trail is lit but during the day it’s not so the map is helpful. We might easily have missed some if we didn’t have the map.
Apart from the Chihuly exhibition, the gardens are pleasant enough to walk through if you have spare time, although the climate here means that they are not as lush or green as other gardens.
Other points of interest in the gardens include the beautiful old Victorian glass Palm House, the Amazon Waterlily Pavilion and the small but interesting Santos Museum of Economic Botany (see separate review).
The cafe in the middle of the gardens is a nice spot to stop for a break and there is some shaded seating, which you will need if you’re here during summer.
TIPS:
* Entry to the gardens and the Chihuly exhibition is free during the day. It runs until until 29 April 2025.
* During the evening, the exhibition is illuminated and is ticketed ($25). If you’re planning a trip around the exhibition, be aware that ‘Chihuly Nights’ is only available Thursday - Sunday.
* Free guided walks run every day from 10:30am and while the Chihuly exhibition is on, there are free Chihuly guided walks at 10am and 11:45am, daily.
* The free city bus passes the Botanic Gardens in its city loop so you can jump on and off here.
