Small Historic Manor
Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery的点评
点评：We visited Pitzhanger as we wanted to use our Historic Houses membership, which gave free admission. The house has been recently restored to former glories and is in superb condition. We went first to the gallery space which had an interesting exhibit centred around England footballers, two of whom - Saka and Chloe Kelly - had been to school nearby. We thought it very good.
You then enter via a basement/ cellar which has videos showing some of the rather sad family history associated with John Soane, who designed and lived in the manor. Several flights of stairs take you to the entrance hall, dining room, bedroom and living room. The architecture is striking and reminded me slightly of one of Gaudi’s designs in Barcelona. The combinations of stone and wood throughout are lovely. There is some signage in each room giving insights that partially bring the house to life. The only negative is that there is very little in the way of furnishings, so it is quite hard to imagine what it would have been like to live in. Soane moved all of these to his London house, so if time allows I would combine the manor with the John Soane museum in Lincoln’ Inn, a superb place to visit.
It is a 5 minute walk from Ealing Broadway tube station. Driving and parking is probably a hassle.
Toilets and coffee shop. Nice park behind the house. I’d say you will spend 60 - 90 minutes here.
