点评:The Alhambra is the best thing about Bradford, and it’s taken to another level with Hamilton.
I’ve seen it on Disney+, listened to the soundtrack many times, and seen it in London, but I’d say this was perhaps the best production I’ve seen of it.
All cast are fantastic but a highlight of highlights was Aaron Burr actor Billy Nevers, only in his early 20s but phenomenon. This is the best ‘Room Where it Happened’ song (early on in Act 2), I have seen across all platforms and venues.
The musical is fantastic but not everyone will like it. It is the only musical I think you get more enjoyment of the more you watch it, because the storyline and presentation can be a little bewildering at first to someone who has no idea what they are watching or what the story is about. People are known to walk out of Hamilton at the interval. The more times you see it the more of the intricacies of the story you catch.
I do find it slows down a bit after Room Where It Happens in the shorter Act 2 and isn’t perfect in that regard, but it’s close.
If you are coming to see it for the first time, unlike any play I can think of I would highly recommend that before you come you at least listen to the soundtrack on Spotify, and preferably if you have Disney+ watch it there.
The set is fantastic in particular the way the dancers move on props lighting and projections and the rotating centre portray all manner of different scenarios without the set actually changing. This is a one set show- this isn’t unique to the touring version, this is how the show is. But it is highly effective. Just don’t expect changing sets and special effects beyond sound and lighting.
This show as a performer must be the most difficult gig to do in world musical theatre. The dialogue is constant with 144 words a minute, 20520 words in total, Hamilton himself has 900 lines of dialogue. This is twice the next musical on the number of words list. This is another reason to watch it or at least listen to the soundtrack before you come as it can seem overwhelming. The physical performance of the dancers is also extreme, they won’t need exercise classes after performing this, that’s for sure.
Overall, phenomenal, but some people will not like it particularly if they go in without watching or listening to it first.
