点评:The library is housed in a very impressive building that was originally a hospital, then latterly a municipal building. It was designed in neoclassical style by the architect William McKenzie, and opened as the city’s infirmary in 1836. In the 1920s it was used as a base for the “County Offices” until the mid eighties. Then, in the 1990s it was extensively modernised and fitted with extensions , at a cost of £6 million. Prince Charles opened it on 13/01/1995, and it was named after a generous benefactor to the town - Arthur Kinmond Bell, whose trust contributed greatly to the new library. His photograph is on display in the foyer, along with a beautiful oil painting “Reconstruction” by local artist Dan Stephen. The interior is bright, cosy and welcoming , and the grounds are very attractive too.
