St. Sebaldus Church的点评
点评：St. Sebaldus is the counterpoint church to St. Lorenz and is located on the north side of the River Pegnitz in the historic centre of Nuremburg. It is open from 9.30am to 4pm (Mon to Sat) and 11am to 4pm (Sun). Entry is free, donations accepted.
Dedicated to the Patron Saint of Nuremberg, the church was mainly constructed between 1225-1275 in Romanesque manner, Gothic reworks and add ons took place during the 14th and 15th centuries when the two front towers were added. The interior was also given Baroque touches during the 17th-century.
The exterior is nice to view if you like Medieval period church buildings. Within, you'll find a fairly traditional narrow nave with high ceiling and vaults. Side aisles lined with small chapel altars, sculptures, artworks and stained glass windows. I have particularly enjoyed seeing the Shrine to St. Sebaldus in the back of the church. This was the work of Peter Vischer the Elder and his two sons (1508-1519) and considered one of the most beautiful cast works of art north of the Alps Mountains. The famous Tucher epitaph is also worth viewing inside St. Sebaldus. This is a fine work by one of Dürer's students, Hans Süß von Kulmbach (1513) and is considered the most 'Italian' of the German Dürer period.
Overall, St. Sebaldus we have enjoyed visits to St. Sebaldus Church during visits to Nuremberg. It is well worth a 15-20 walk within to view the church and its artworks, which make for a fitting complement to St. Lorenz on the south side of the River Pegnitz. Both are important churches that make for nice places to visit while in Nuremberg.
