点评：The States Gallery is an important art museum complex along Konrad-Adenauer-Straße just to the east of Staatstheater Stuttgart and Oberer Schloßgarten. Opening times are 10am to 5pm with extended hours until 8pm on Thursdays (closed on Mondays) and entry is €7 per adult to view the permanent collections. There are temporary exhibitions as well that require additional fee.
Note, there are two major sections of the State Galleries. The first is the original classical style (Alte) Old State Gallery, which opened in 1843 and was restored in the 1950s after severe damage from WWII bombings. This is where the historic fine art collection. You can view works of German, Dutch, Italian works dating back nearly 700 years. It is a good collection of pieces by Europen Old Masters.
The (Neue) New State Gallery is a Postmodern style building completed in 1984. This is where you view an impressive collection of 20th-century Modern and contemporary art collection, a nice counterpoint to the traditional fine art in the Old Galleries.
We spent nearly two hours browsing the collections in both galleries, finding it a nice way to spend time art viewing while in Stuttgart. If you are particularly interested in modern and contemporary art, I'd also suggest visiting the Art Museum Stuttgart at Schlossplatz. There is a very nice collection with focus on works by German artists.
