点评:This is a historical Protestant Church at Paulsplatz in Old Town. Opening hours are 10am to 5pm daily. Historically, St. Paul's was constructed between 1789-1833 in Neo-classical style, making use of a oval shaped, rotunda layout. In addition to its traditional church function, St. Paul's was the location of the first meeting of the National Assembly (1848-49) and drafting of the first German constitution, making it also a symbol of democracy in Frankfurt.
Unfortunately, like much of Old Town, the church was destroyed during WWIi air raids and was reconstructed shortly afterwards. What you find today is a basement level exhibition space along with an upstairs meeting place within ceremonies and important events. You can see both.
Of particular interest in the basement is the large scale circular mural called "The Path of the Representatives to St. Paul's Church" that is the work of Berlin artist Johannes Grützke (1991). Details on the subject matter are in German but the mural topic is very clear, relating to the endeavours of forming Germany's first constitution, St. Paul's role as a venue in that process and the symbolism the church maintains to this day to the national unity and democracy. We really enjoyed viewing the mural as part of the St. Paul's church experience.
