Magnifique! The Barge Saraphina on the Canal du Midi

点评：My wife and I plus one other couple toured the Canal du Midi on the hotel barge Saraphina. We feel that the Saraphina experience was unique in that, unlike other Canal du Midi cruises, we weren't tethered to the boat and we were instead able to sample the local cuisine with several lunches ashore. Also, the itinerary seemed like a "highlights" tour of the Canal du Midi, which included stops in Narbonne and Carcassonne as well as the river crossing at Beziers and the interconnecting steps at Fonserannes.
The Saraphina is a 100-year old barge lovingly restored and retrofitted to comfortably accommodate our two couples. The deck was ideal for watching the beautiful countryside lazily slip by. Our individual rooms were cozy, and our cabins still managed to include a queen-size bed and loads of storage. The en suite sink, shower and throne were tight, but not an impediment.
The crew was outstanding in every respect, and we believe that they, as much as anything else, make this particular barge unique, exciting and unforgettable. Finn is the recognized Master of the Canal du Midi, and his pride and knowledge of that beautiful barge was evident in all of our interactions. Emily's offerings from the kitchen were all dazzling, not only in their taste and creativity, but in their presentation as well. Allan, our First Mate, was everything we could have hoped for with a genuine English butler who catered to our every whim, and Rex, our driver and tour guide, never failed to regale us with his knowledge of each of the local sites we visited. They simply can NOT be matched!
We all booked this trip to celebrate our respective 50th wedding anniversaries, and it could NOT have gone any better. The crew even threw us a "surprise" party one night to celebrate the event, decorating the barge and bringing an entertainer on board just for us!
