点评：The Gothic Protestant Cathedral of St. Pierre Le Jeunne in Strasbourg is an absolute hidden gem. Walking back in the evening to our car, after the hustle and bustle and brilliant lights of the Strasbourg Christmas Market, we noticed people leaving this large church. Though I and members of my family had been coming to Strasbourg on-and-off for 40 years, this was an edifice we had never visited. The church is open on limited hours, I recommend checking their website in advance for details. In a very rushed visit, I was able to see only the interior of the main church, sadly missing the crypt and the cloisters. Every inch of the interior is worth viewing from frescoes that are vivid, to beautify structured architectural elements, to an amazing rood screen. As this was a spur of the moment visit and rushed, I and my daughter barely scratched the surface of this stunning church. There are materials available to study the church, but there are also amiable and dedicated volunteers on site who will endeavor to explain the church to you. My daughter was intrigued to talk with an animated and friendly volunteer who spoke German and French and was clearly passionate about helping visitors understand this church’s many facets.
There is much to take in when visiting this church. Please study up on the church using a source like an older “Blue Guide” to France prior to your visit and give yourself much more time than the rushed half hour I had before the closing time.
