点评：Since the Teatro Di Dioniso (or Theatre of Dionysus) is not built on the top of the Acropolis, it's easy to miss. There's also some confusion because there are actually two different ancient theaters on the site. Both are included in your ticket, but this is the largest, oldest, and most important. It can be viewed from the top of the Acropolis and can be reached by a path from the top, but it is more easily reached from the bottom of the hill. Built on the south slope of the Acropolis hill, it was constructed around the mid-to-late sixth century BC and was the first of the ancient Greek theaters in Athens. This likely makes it the world's first purpose-built theatre for classical Greek plays. The theatre reached its greatest use in the fourth century BC when it would have had a capacity of up to 17,000 people. After the Roman period the theatre fell into decay and was not excavated and restored to its current condition until the nineteenth century. (PaM)
