A Beautiful & Refreshing Experience And one of the Best Cenotes

点评：On our way to Chichén Itzá, we planned to visit a cenote and initially stopped by Ik Kil since it’s the most well-known and closest to the ruins. However, to our surprise, they didn’t let us in just to take a look or photos, which was disappointing. That made the decision easier—we headed to Cenote Oxman, and it turned out to be a fantastic choice.
Oxman is a beautiful open cenote with clear blue water, surrounded by dramatic roots hanging down into the sinkhole. There’s a swinging rope you can use to launch yourself into the middle of the cenote (so much fun!), a jumping platform, and stairs for easy entry if you prefer a more relaxed way in. Life jackets are mandatory, which makes it accessible even for non-swimmers.
The entry system is well thought out. You can choose between:
• 200 pesos for general entry
• 400 pesos which includes 300 pesos credit for food and drink at the on-site restaurant
We went with two 400-peso tickets and two general tickets for a group of four, which gave us 600 pesos in food credit—more than enough for a solid lunch. We paid the small difference by card.
A few tips:
• Bring towels—they don’t provide any.
• Water shoes are a great idea, not just for Oxman but for any other cenotes or water activities in the Yucatán.
• Be prepared to walk down several floors of stairs to reach the cenote.
It’s located closer to Valladolid, so it’s a bit of a drive from Tulum, but absolutely worth it. The water was refreshing and surprisingly warm, even in April.
If you’re visiting Chichén Itzá and trying to choose between Ik Kil and Oxman, we’d highly recommend Oxman. It’s less crowded, more relaxed, and just a more enjoyable overall experience.
