A Few Tips About Malahat Skywalk

点评：Since our last visit in 2017, we came back in 2024 to find a new $17 million dollar exhibit, Malahat Skywalk, about 20 miles (32km) north of Victoria on BC-1. As it was July, a free dedicated Malahat bus can be had from downtown. Regular school bus drivers, normally unemployed during the summer, will drive you in a comfortable air-conditioned bus. The drive takes about 30 minutes.
The cost is a reasonable $38Can if you are 64 or younger; $34Can if you are senior 65 or above; and free if you are 5 years old and younger.
A pleasing trail through the woods will eventually turn into a skywalk platform made of steel. There are a number of informative plaques and sculptures along the way.
At the end is a 104-foot (32m) tower that goes up in a circular fashion. The tower itself is 250m above sea level with views of Mount Baker and Saanich Peninsula to name a few areas. There is a sculpture of an eagle the top which makes a good photo opportunity.
Children and daring adults would love to take the Spiral Slide down. There is no elevator to the top, but the Skywalk was developed with a gradual incline for everyone. I took the Spiral Slide down at the age of 69. It was fast and I became a bit nervous—but survived. I did get a cut somehow and my thin skin needed a bandage which was provided by a medical kit nearby.
We loved this experience and highly recommend spending time and money at this exhibit. The longest skywalk in the world is located in Minneapolis, MN. The city has created a skywalk which is 8 miles long through the city to protect the citizens from the cold.
