Deep Slate Mine Tour- Times they are a changin'

点评：I've visited the mines before, a number of times. An opportunist moment to show my very significant other some Welsh history and a real slice of life evidenced by many examples in Welsh society and millions of slate roofs across the UK, Europe and beyond.
The mines have changed, I guess they should. They are now home to underground golf, zip lines and the 'deep' mine tour.
Parking on site is not easy unless you head up to the parking for the zip wire area, apparently, the whole area is now zip wire.
You will see two buildings on arrival, one clearly under construction, all good, the other, home to a gift shop, someone who meets and greets then directs to iPads , fill in the forms where you waive your right to sue if you die, or just break your leg. Pass through the tills, confirm email address, pay for whichever option you choose, we chose the deep mine tour. Passing large 100v line loudspeakers pumping out what passes for music en route to the train building, we were treated to a slate splitting display, done quite well too, then some history and then off back past the blackpool-esque sound system, not a kiss-me-quick hat in sight. Into the old level 3 entrance and slope off below the ground. Twists and turns, lots of steps, slate quality increasing as we go deeper. More wonderful history, take a head torch, I did, came in useful. I'll not spoil this experience with further waffle, just to say it's worth visiting, still a man ving experience. It's not as it was, there are some surprises but be prepared for the under 28 experience which threatens to eclipse the real and valid reason for the slate mines which, just for the sake of footfall and money is quite sad..
