Lovely setting, beautiful weather, disappointing food.
The Herb Farm的点评
点评：At lunch time today my husband and I were passing the Herb Farm in Sonning Common and decided to buy a few herbs for our herb garden, and on the spur of the moment decided to have a quick brunch while we were at it. We wanted something quick and simple so settled on a baguette bacon sandwich and salad, and a piece of quiche, also accompanied by some salad. When I asked what came with the baguette I was told "a couple of crisps", and it did come with exactly two crisps and some crumbs. When the food was brought to our table the baguette turned out to be stale and salad very soggy. The Herb Farm was closed yesterday so it is highly probable some of the salad selection was a leftover from Sunday. It certainly wasn't fresh. My husband ate his salad and later said he had some stomach discomfort. I ate a spoonful of mine but decided not to risk the rest.
Interestingly, we also visited the same restaurant on Friday, 9 May and the food tasted fresh then. That is why we returned. When leaving the place today I commented on the food quality to the members of staff - one of them was apologetic, but the other one was rather unsympathetic.
Even if the bread you are serving isn't very fresh, there are ways to make it more appealing by toasting it - in this case not much effort was made to make it more palatable. And when you serve salad, it simply has to be fresh. Today's offering was bordering on kimchi, but kimchi wasn't on the menu.
Also, we found the toilets quite shocking. Not sure when it was last visited by a cleaner.
