点评:The Musée Dauphinois is approached by a long stepped path that offers a good view across the flat city below, and of the cable car that is one of the symbols of the city. Entry is across a cobbled courtyard; like all the provincial museums it is free.
The museum is on several floors; at ground floor level there are cloisters, with a large sinuous serpent-like installation called Écorcée, created in 2021 by an artist named Simon Augade. Built on a wooden frame, the installation is covered in wood shingles and appears to writhe around one side of the courtyard. Going up a level there was a temporary exhibition on the Bassari region spanning parts of Senegal and Guinea. Although very definitely not Dauphinois, it was quite good, and made some attempt to show had traditional culture is being modified by more Western values, with excellent use of videos, large photographs and well-labelled objects.
The floor above hosts the permanent collection Alpins – 7000 ans d’histoires, which looks at the development of civilisation in the French alps since Neolithic times. This was also well laid out, although there were three minute cartoons about life at various times that I though t slightly missed the mark. A detour part way took you up to the top floor for a gallery devoted to skiing. I enjoyed this, but might have found it less interesting if I had never skied myself. Towards the end, there was also an artwork inspired by people the mountains, including a hooded figure constructed from lorry inner tubes.
