点评:Beautiful destination for camping. The park is currently half closed for repairs and maintenance - which is much needed. This unfortunately includes most of the good hiking trails on the hilly portion of the park. The available flat trail - the Frio Canyon Trail (a misnomer since it goes through no canyon at all) is good for leisure mountain biking but fairly boring to hike. It is more of a dirt maintenance or horse road than a trail. The short nature trail is much more interesting as a footpath. Stayed in the Live Oak Loop with water & electric, the best loop for this in the park. Even numbered sites 320-330 on the SW outside of the loop are the best for smaller campers, and a few also for larger campers. Behind each is a greenbelt separating the Live Oak and Rio Frio loops. It would be nice if it were thicker, and it is pierced frequently by paths people have worn down. But it is enough to allow small wildlife to move along. We saw a large armadillo and a black eared jackrabbit in it. Site 330 has a busy foot trail next to it connecting between the Rio Frio Loop. Site 328 has a struggling mesquite tree at the end of the parking, and no good shade over the broken picnic table. Site 326 is hands down the best campsite for distance from road, between sites, and shade. Sites 324 and 322 have much less shade and are more open but still have driveways perpendicular to the road. Site 320 has a short parking pad that is too close to the road and parallel to it, but lots of shaded space under a huge live oak. We swam in the river below site 332 where arial views show a distinct footpath to a swim hole formed by a rock dam. Unfortunately the opposite bank at this spot is not park land and is right below some small rental units. The facilities at the park need to be rebuilt. The shower/bathrooms are showing their age. In some there are no hooks to be found for hanging clothes, towels or anything. The day we left there was a sewage problem and it appeared that park employees were flushing the water spigots at every empty site, letting them run full open on the ground. Garner is a great park, but has so much more potential if it were more loved by the State. The drive through the Texas hill country to get there is worth the trip.
