Rewarding medieval Old Town to visit especially during Christmas Market
纽伦堡老城区的点评
点评：The medieval Old Town (Altstadt) of Nuremberg dates back nearly 1000 years and is situated between the Hbf Station (south) and Nuremberg Castle (north). It includes the areas on both sides of the Pegnitz River along with numerous historic attractions and remnants of the old city wall and defensive structure from the Middle Ages.
In addition to historic churches, town hall buildings, bridges, towers and public squares, there are numerous monuments, street markets mixed in with modern department stores, shops and quite a few restaurants and hotels as well. The Old Town is pedestrian friendly, everything is walkable and within fairly close proximity, meaning you don't have to have a vehicle or rely on too much if any public transportation during multiple day stays in the city.
We recently spent 4 nights in Nuremburg this past December, greatly enjoying the annual Christmas Market (Christkindlesmarkt) that made use of the largest public squares around Old Town, creating enjoyable market scenes, lots of mulled wine and seasonal foods and entertainment that made our visit at this time of year very rewarding despite the cold weather.
We also enjoyed being able to make a day trips out of Nuremberg to places like Bamberg while being able to return for Christkindlesmarkt activity in the evenings. Would highly recommend visits at this time of year, something we've done a couple times now and will likely do again in the future.
