点评：Theater lovers would be glad to know that one of the best-kept secrets here in the Catskills and Hudson Valley is just a scenic 35-minute drive in the countryside from us.
Every summer, the Forestburgh Playhouse — the oldest continuously operating summer theater in New York State — springs to life with music, movement, light, color and costumes as it regales visitors to the beautiful Catskills with Broadway classics, original musicals, festivals and cabaret shows.
Founded by a troupe of Broadway performers who made their way up from New York City in 1947 and lovingly restored an old barn into a theater with an adjoining tavern, the Playhouse has since gone on to launch the careers of young performers, technicians, writers, and composers.
In the past, we had watched Matilda, Addams Family and Willy Wonka. The productions delight not just kids, but adults as well. Where else can you hike in the Catskills or Shawangunk mountains in the morning, take a short drive over to a beautiful barn to catch a Broadway musical for a very reasonable ticket price, then head on over to a nearby lake or stream with your tackle box?
