Winter trip to national inland waterways museum and archive at Elesmere port.
National Waterways Museum的点评
点评:We were met at the entrance by a young woman who most welcoming and knowledgeable. We chatted about canals and restoration and history while enjoying a coffee and a toasty before our trip into the archive.
We had booked a slot in the Archive to look at Kennet and Avon history. The Archive staff couldn’t have been more friendly and Helpful.
We found some fascinating items that we will use in our information centre / tea room at Aldermaston Wharf where we have a 18century building and an older out house that was a wash and Toll house.
After we had worked through the boxes and documents we made our way round to the exhibition hall and looked at some of the iced up boats moored as exhibits. It was cold and the waterways were frozen. An interesting insight into winter boating and old working boats.
None the less it was a fascinating display of boats and historical working waterways. The shop had a number if interesting books an an array of presents to take back to the family. We aim to return later in the year.
An extra bonus was to find the museum has a charging point for our car which made life just that little bit easier.
