点评:Magical was the adjective my partner and I kept returning to to describe the Christmas lights at Waddesdon Manor. This grand, Grade 1 listed country house was built for Ferdinand de Rothschild in the nineteenth-century and is now owned by the National Trust. Each of the various rooms has its own particular lighting arrangement, all loosely held together in 2024 by the theme of Sleeping Beauty.
Inside the house, we marvelled at towering Christmas trees with twinkling lights and lavish adornments, a rainbow of shimmering colours projected on to the ornate furniture, and beautifully creative decorations - I particularly liked the feathered dragon. The gardens host a Christmas market selling the usual fare so we refuelled with a hot dog and a coffee before exploring the outdoor lights.
Outside, illuminated reindeer and a corridor of warm white lights lead the way to more light installations among the trees, which are atmospherically lit in red and pink and purple. Our visit culminated with the animated light show, projected on to the rear of the building, which was mesmerising.
Would I recommend the Christmas lights at Waddesdon Manor? Absolutely.
