点评:Nightmare experience with this company. My family and I have vacationed on AMI 10+ times throughout the years and have booked countless excursions with different company’s around and on the island and have never had an experience like this. We booked a nighttime clear kayak tour for 7 people with this company - totaling over $500. You cannot get anyone on the phone to answer questions or book your excursion. When you call you immediately get a text asking to communicate that way - this is fine, I can text. I texted my questions and never got an answer to the question asked. Since we were wanting to try this experience out, we went ahead and booked online. The day of our excursion I got a text stating that the tour would need to be canceled with a refund OR rescheduled due to the tour guide having a tire shop “f**k him over” and a tire blow out on him and “almost kill him.” This unprofessionalism should have been my warning sign to cancel and I should have taken my refund. Whatever, we’re chill and understanding, we went ahead and rescheduled.
The night of the tour we got a text asking how many kayaks we would need. I responded to the owner stating that PER HIS WEBSITE, the weight limit of the kayaks were 425lbs, and since everyone in our party is roughly 200 - 250lbs, I thought it would be best for everyone to be separate. He responded with saying they like to have as many tandem pairs as possible, unless there is a weight issue. I again responded and made it clear that PAIRED in groups we would be over 425lbs, so it would be best to have us separate. He said this would be fine.
We arrived to our tour that evening and as promised there were 7 individual kayaks. The guide adjusted the seat in each kayak to, in his words, “distribute the weight appropriately for one rider”.
When we walked down to the edge of the bay where the kayaks would be launching from, we found that the kayaks were sitting in no less than a FOOT of rotten, piled up, decomposing sea grass. The smell coming from this chosen launch area was literally vomit inducing. I get the sea grass is natural and the guide cannot control where it builds up, but choosing that area to launch where there was a boat ramp no less than 100 feet down was puzzling.
A member of our group snapped the straps of their sandals walking through this mush to reach their boat. One member of our group had to BACK OUT and miss the entire excursion because her kayak was in such deep sea grass/rotten crap she couldn’t even safely get in her boat without slipping.
The rest of us launched.
The water was murky and full of sand and debris, the guide announced that “we can’t really see much on this tour, a storm blowed through earlier and makes the water murky”. Uhhh.. ok. AGAIN, I understand they have no control over the weather, but when the entire point of the tour is to be out at night and look down into the water with the lights of the kayak, why would something not have been said ahead of time about the conditions not being right for a night tour? We saw nothing on our tour… murky water you couldn’t see through and rotten sea grass smells from our shoes were our companions.
REGARDLESS, we were in good spirits, chatting with the guide and trying to make the best out of a bummer situation.
The cherry on top of the entire tour and my BIGGEST complaint with the company is once we were out in the middle of the bay, hearing a member of our group call out “IM SINKING!” I then turn around to see a sunk kayak and my brother treading water in the bay.. at night. Everyone rushed over and helped get the sunk kayak out of the water. My brother couldn’t get back in the kayak without sinking it again since he was treading water.
He had to drag his kayak and swim to a shallow area where we finally got him back in the boat. Once we got him back in, the boat started immediately filling up with water and we quickly tried to get him to shore. He sunk yet again. My brother mentioned multiple times that he believed his boat had a leak/crack, the guide insisted the boat was fine. The seat was adjusted again to try and balance his weight if that was the issue, again he sunk. He had no choice but to swim back to shore - about 250 yards - in Tampa bay, at night, in pitch black water.
The kicker of the whole thing is the guide, who was forced to jump in the first time the kayak sunk and help right the boat, made multiple comments about how he hated swimming in the ocean at night and “who knows what type of sea life is out here” and he quickly wanted back in his boat and out of the dark water. He made the journey back to shore in his boat while my brother swam and had to wade through the rotten sea grass at the bank.
My brothers clothes and swim suit were ruined due to being submerged in the rotten grass/dead fish collected and pooling near the shore. The member of our group that ended up not being able to make the tour had to run to Publix and buy gallons of water so we could rinse off in the parking lot and strip out clothes and swimsuits off to put in trash bags so our cars weren’t ruined.
The entire experience was NIGHTMARISH. Our tour was cut short due to spending 30+ min on a water rescue. Throughout the whole thing, every member of our group stayed KIND, CALM, and courteous. No harsh words were exchanged, we didn’t get mad, scream, yell - which in this day and age is the norm. The guide apologized and said “this is the worst tour I’ve ever been on, this has been crazy” and apologized for the boat sinking. We told him it wasn’t his fault and parted ways.
The next morning I texted the owner, who I had been previously texting with, and asked him if he had been made aware of the situation that went down the night prior, and let him know that we felt we were entitled to a refund for at least ONE tour fee, for my brother who spent his tour swimming in Tampa bay at night. The owner said he hadn’t heard anything about this, would contact the guide and get back to me. He never got back with me. 24 hours later I sent him a follow up text asking if he “had any updates on this situation”. He immediately responded saying that the my brother sunk due to being over the weight limit, and that the company was not at fault and no refund would be given. He also said he got our full 1.5 hour tour. When I responded back that text saying my brother was NO WHERE NEAR the 425 POUND weight limit and we would like at least ONE refund, the owner quickly responded back asking me to quit texting him and told me “you are the issue”.
There was no harassing texts, and I would have been happy to discuss things over the phone initially, but he would not answer.
Yes this review is WAY too long, I NEVER leave bad reviews, but this experience was so bad, so expensive, and had so much poor customer service, I couldn’t not warn others about this. Unbelievable treatment.
