点评：Pune has Many Iconic spots in the city, out of which This Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park is one of the must visit place especially when you are planning one day outing with kids. We have visited on weekend along with Narayani Dham temple of Katraj which is just one km away from this Zoo Point. We have visited Narayani Dham in the morning @ 08:30 and had breakfast near Zoo Park. After that took Entry tickets and enjoyed first half inside Zoo and explored entire Zoo.
Around 01:00 pm we had been to Katraj Park which is developed on the bank of Lake. We bought homemade food and same we had inside this park as open area Lunch like Picnic. Kids enjoyed a lot. This is Very nice place to relax in the evening. After having lunch and relaxed some time inside the Park then travelled towards Katraj Jain temple. There we spent more than one hour and finally reached back to home by Evening. This is the perfect One day plan if you wish to plan.
Interesting Facts About Pune Zoo Park.
1. In the year 1953, the Pune Municipal Corporation had created the Peshwe Park on about 7 acres land where previously Madhavaram Peshwa had established his private menagerie in 1770. Mr. Neelam Kumar Khaire created the Snake park in the year 1986, by knowing this land would go on to house the Pune Zoo Park. He later went on to become first director of the park.
2. This Zoo park is started in 1997 and opened to public in the year 1999 and at that time, it included only the Reptile park, Monkeys, deer and Sambars. It took considerable time to shift all animals and the process went on till 2005. Finally Task accomplished, and the Peshwa Park was closed by renaming the Entire 132 acres area as Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park.
2. Pune Zoo park is spread over a staggering 130 acres. This Zoo is divided into four zones. First Zone is Snake Park which is very near to main Entrance. Second Zone is The Main Zoo area which you can visit by walk or by hiring Electric Vehicle ticket. Third Zone is the Katraj Lake area, and fourth Zone is an Animal Orphanage area.
3. First Zone Snake park has over 22 species of snakes with 10 species of reptiles comprising more than 150 individuals. 13 foot long King cobra is special attraction inside this Snake park.
4. Second Zone Zoo park houses a total of 365 animals and 140 endangered species. The Zoo park can be visited by walking throughout the area. However Electric battery vehicles are available for differently abled people, senior citizens and normal people who are not able to walk long distance. 40 INR per person and 25 INR per child are the charges for Battery operated Vehicles.
5. Third Zone Katraj Lake spread across 42 acre, wherein you can enjoy boating. The Zoo is thus a one stop destination for children and wildlife enthusiasts.
6. Fourth Zone Animal Orphanage area has interesting schemes. This Park also incorporate a rescue center for injured and orphaned animals. It has run an Animal adaptation scheme since October 2010. One can adopt animals and sponsor food for them from one day to 5 years. One more option is Pay 50,000 INR and adopt all animals in the Zoo for one day to sponsor food to them.
