Wimpole Estate的点评
点评：This was a great day out. The overused term "fun for all the family" is fully applicable here. Mobility scooters are available to borrow - reservation required. If you have limited mobility they can really open up the accessibility of the estate. A handy map shows scooter accessible trails. Dogs are welcome within the estate at large, but certain areas are excluded (check with management and observe signage) this includes the house, working farm and formal gardens. Please keep your four legged friend on a lead and deal with excrement appropriately. Snowdrops were dying off on our visit, however crocus and daffodil were spotted galore. More than one visit is required to do justice to this, the most grand house in Cambridgeshire. We got a "wow factor" in several rooms. There's a portrait of Queen Victoria exhibiting a rare happy pose. The library is quite stunning, the sheer number of volumes is amazing. Kipling's suitcase is visible (see photo) downstairs, along with drawings of the lift. Please note - the lift is no longer in situ, persons wishing to view the house will have to ascend/descend using stairs. It's a working estate complete with farm and livestock (see photos) the farm is well worth a look. We happened to view the pigs at feeding time, a spectacle in its self. Pigs CAN stand on their hind legs (just like Orwell described in his Animal Farm masterpiece) and we observed several doing just that. There's a walled garden - close the gate to keep the rabbits out - well worth looking at. Those who like to know what they're looking at should open the box (see photo) for a greater insight. Toilets and refreshment concessions are situated towards the middle of the estate, together with a bookshop and a souvenir shop. We bought a guidebook to read about all the things we saw and learn about those we missed.
