伯克利城堡的点评
点评：Blessed with a beautiful, sunny day but what a castle! Lovely terraced grounds and the wisteria was putting on a show with its flowers and aroma.
It is not really suitable for those with too great a mobility issue as there are many staircases both inside and out to traverse the terraces. Saying that you could sit on the top terrace and admire the views across the Gloucestershire landscape. This is all made clear on their website.
Very welcoming and friendly staff. I took a guided which lasted just over an hour 15 and was a great way to learn about the castle and the family who have owned it for 700 yrs(?) and still live in it, it was very entertaining and informative.
I visited while they had the costumes from Wolf Hall’s second series on display - the castle was used to shoot some of the series so that did form art of my decision to visit when I did.
There is a tea room on the grounds but before the entry point to the castle and grounds, which has a very good local reputation, so you can visit that and sit in the kitchen garden without paying to enter - I believe that is open when the castle isn’t.
All in all, excellent visit and well worth the entry fee.
