Booth Museum of Natural History的点评
点评：Dreadful Place. I went thinking the place would be full of fossils, like the natural history museum in London, but instead 90% of the exhibits are dead stuffed birds and animals. Booth slaughtered most birds personally, even rearing some until they were the right size and then killing them. This sort of history is the reason why many of the birds, butterflies and mammals displayed are now extinct. Booth should not be lauded as an example of a community benefactor and natural history pioneer.
The cases bear the names of the birds but nothing else (including whether they still exist). There are actual skeletons (not fossils) of endangered creatures such as killer whales, (bizarrely displayed with an elephant's skull just below it's head) and pangolins, plus a stuffed cheetah (population left in the wild 7,500). Apparently some 4 or 5 of the skeleton skulls were fossils, but amidst the skeletons I missed that. I read that the collection includes 30,000 fossils, so why aren't they on display instead of this glorification of collecting and ownership at the expense of biodiversity?
I am a council tax payer in Brighton and object to my taxes being devoted to this hideous place in this day and age.
