South Shields Museum & Art Gallery的点评
点评：The museum is located in the centre of South Shields and is very close to the metro station.
It reflects the coal mining and ship building industries of the South Tyneside area of yesteryear with a great collection of artefacts relating to them.
I liked the posters praising South Shields as a holiday resort and there was another fascinating set of exhibits concerning the advent of the Metro system in Tyneside.
There was a small collection of reptiles on show including some scary looking spiders and a python.
Catherine Cookson and Ridley Scott both hailed from South Shields and there were fascinating displays about both.
I enjoyed the picture from the opening night of the Latino nightclub in 1966 featuring Frankie Howerd and Tom Jones.
A really nice collection of the work of local artist Bob Olley was on show. His work depicting industrial scenes from the area was excellent.
The art gallery was quite small but had a nice selection of work from local artists including C N Hemy plus one from Canterbury’s finest T S Cooper.
The current exhibition is called Scran which celebrates food and drink from South Tyneside.
The local Bangladeshi community and its culinary delights are well documented with the restaurants on Ocean Road to the fore.
I also liked the articles on Dicksons the local German pork butchers and Wright’s biscuits.
I spent a hour or so browsing and admission is free.
