点评:Went to the fabulous plant fair there today. Place immaculate, good parking, sensible entry prices, great staff on the gate with usual variety of intelligent and pleasant plant stall holders. All great so far.
Then we wanted to get a drink. Which is where it all goes wrong. The queue (like last year), snaked through and out of the building. A 20 minute queue in the hot sun to be huffed at by one of the 4 (5 staff if you count the lad restocking the bar...) older women who rule the place. Those 4 were doing very little while the younger woman was plating food and generally running around trying to serve the busy cafeteria solo. When we finally reached the front we asked for an iced coffee for Lead Matriarch to huff loudly and indignantly, and she told us 'No, that needs ice and I'd have to go and get it, there is a queue you know'. How rude. The only coffee available was a paper cup of mediocre instant coffee. No lattes, no cappuccino available.
This woman has probably been mis-running the cafe for years and no-one on the management committee of Capesthorne Hall has the courage to call her out, or better still fire her. And her coterie of lazy staff.
There's loads of room outside to set up a separate hot/cold drink area to serve people who don't want to queue for ages for food, but who just want a coffee, tea, water or similar.
But that would need a plan, and sadly those running Capesthorne Hall catering don't seem to have a clue.
