点评:Without preservation, we wouldn't have a tangible meaning to any of our history. I'm reminded of the famous story of the USAF B17 Memphis Belle, which did its tour of duty and is now beautifully preserved for all to see. What did our country do with F for Freddie ( Friday the Thirteenth) after completing 128 missions by the end of the war? They sent it for scrap! The same applies to many other treasures. Thank goodness that the museum managed to salvage it bit by bit.
This is a great place to visit and the friendly staff are very helpful. There are some fine examples on display but only the one large hanger, which means that many of the exhibits are outside, at the mercy of the weather, which is far from ideal. Whilst many of the aircraft are in surprisingly good condition for their age, there are some which are looking a little bit worse for wear. It would be nice for the museum to have sufficient hanger space for all the exhibits and this should be publicly funded as should anything else to do with our national heritage.
I really enjoyed my day and it brought back many happy memories. Apart from the fabulous aircraft, I particularly enjoyed the cinema. The cafe is also a great place for a drink and a cake or a meal. Long may the good work continue and our heritage remain in the good and capable hands of those that care.
